installation problems and shutdowns

Hi there,

i have recently upgraded much of my pc to give the following specs.

Athlon AMD 3200+
Motherboard MSI MS-7215
Memory 1024MB
Direct X 9.0c
NVidia GeForce 6600
80Gb hard disk
CD-Rom
DVD-Rom
Floppy drive
Power supply is K-Mex PH0300/350/400/500

Operating system is Windows XP SP1
Antivirus - Trend PC-Cillin

the more i go on with my computer the more problems i seem to have.
sometimes i have windows installation problems.
for example - windows update wants to install innumerable things including SP2 but frequently crashes.

my computer switches off for no reason

i get error messages all the time usually related to .exe files (windows explorer, internet explorer, excel, games, etc. etc.)

yesterday i had the message - winlogon.exe - entry point not found
the procedure entry point Ndrtype3nmarshall could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll

followed by the same message related to Isass.exe, services.exe, userinit.exe, explorer.exe

i am a little sick and tired of reinstalling everything and i am reluctant to take it to a technician for them to see it for half and hour and everything to seem ok.

please any advice helpful
also i built the computer myself - is there an obvious installation/connection error?

cheers in advance

well, lets go with the easy stuff.

run a ram tester, such as www.memtest.org , overnight. also run the hard drive diagnostic program. make sure your dimms are identical.

which powersupply do you have? you have 4 listed....

Posted by: maximummax

power supply is PH500
am running memtest

running memtest i am getting lots of errors along the lines of

error found with word pair #........../........ (either could be the source)

i have two new memory sticks of 512MB only installed 1 month ago?

yesterday i had the message - winlogon.exe - entry point not found
the procedure entry point Ndrtype3nmarshall could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll

you could have a damaged or corupted dll file (get a new one from another computer), also run a virus scan.

well, you have a problem with your ram or motherboard. run the tests on each dimm separately and track down which dimm or slot is the problem.
