Doom3

hi !

I just installed Doom3.

I got the following errors after the program initialization :

Unknown command 'vid_restart'
idRenderSytem shutdown : : ()
Shutting diwn Opengl Subsystem
...Shutting down QGL
couldn't load default.cfg

After this a windows error message error will pop up, saying the application encountered
error and will be shutdown.

I have an AMD Athlon 2600+, with 512 MB ram plus a 128 MB
Nvidia Geforce440 w/ AGP 8x running WIndows XP SP2.

I upgraded the video driver and reinstalled the game but still get the same error.

Big Thanks ,

Roma

Unfortunatly, you are owner of the infamous Geforce MX card. This card have no support for direct X 9.0 And no support for the shaders in DOOM3. And it is way too slow to play Doom3 as this is one of the tuffest games you can run. Hardware rewievers use it as test game when testing videocards.

So you need a Radeon 9800Pro at least, to be able to run that game smoothly.

Here is one decently priced 9800 pro:

Powercolor Radeon 9800 PRO / 128MB DDR / AGP 8x/4x / DVI / TV-Out / Video Card $129.99

Your gaming would improve even more if you added at least another 256mb or 512mb of RAM later on.

I would add another 512mb ram and get a GeForce 6600 GT. It will run doom 3 beautifuly. XFX makes a really nice AGP version of the 6600GT. If your looking to dabble in a bit more power, the 6800 GT would make a good choice, although its about twice the price.

Yeah, the Geforce series 6 or Radeon X series is very nice. But then you will have to have or get a power supply 430W or more. So still the "best bang for buck", would be 9800Pro.

Not if you buy a quality PSU. Im running a A64 2800+(754), 2gb ram, DVD burner, DVD reader, 80gb HD and a 6800GT on a Antec True 2.0 380w. Plus I have large case fans, lighting and a front panel LCD.

I'm able to run Doom 3 with my GeForce 4 Mx440. The graphics aren't the prettiest, but it runs at 1024x768 res. Anything higher and it starts to lag badly.
