Campus Network Woes

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I live on a school campus. Our IT administrator babysits the firewall and proxy server(runs Windows NT). It's very restrictive. I want to open listening ports for a BitTorrent client and untether web browsing. So I know what the problem is, however, I don't know how to go about port forwarding and bypassing the firewall. Any instruction, or a point in the right direction is appreciated. Thanks!

ask the administrator to open those ports. thats about all you can do that cant get you booted off campus.

Thanks. Tried that. Unfortunately, she's not interested in accomodating student needs, go figure. But suppose I'm willing to cross the "booted-off-campus" bridge when I get there. I still want to bypass the school cache and proxy. I figure one route is find a local SOCKS server and port through it, assuming its kept open. But how do I find a local host and figure out the porting?
