Friends have called to say that their emails to me will not go through on AOL

Several things to check:

First, is it all of your friends? If it's just one person, they may just be typing the addy wrong (or address book needs updated.)

If it's everyone:
Can you log into the AOL account and check email? Maybe the account got deleted/disabled.
Solution: get new account.

AOL may be having some trouble with their mail servers.
Solution: Wait.

Is the account full? You may have hit your inbox limit.
Solution: Delete some stuff you don't need.

Other possibilities:
AOL has a tendency to be really bad about Spam, and then go Nazi on it, so they'll let everything in for a while, and then for while they'll block all emails with, say @hotmail.com in the from field. Lots of free email providers do this to attempt to make up for their shoddy Junk mail filtering.

You may also want to check any junk settings you have on your account to make sure.

And last but not least - are you getting the emails, or are they actually bouncing back to the senders?

A better description of the problem may help. What error messages are they getting?

And another thought: is your email account with AOL, or is theirs, and they are trying to send from their AOL account to your <random> account?

Good luck!
