I got a puppy!

So after years of wanting to get a dog, I finally went out this weekend and picked out a good one from the animal shelter. He's a year old, housetrained, has all his shots and is fixed, and is even microchipped already -- weirdest thing, those microchips. They're RFID -- the people at the shelter actually scanned the dog with a handscanner to bring up his info while we were filling out adoption papers. Heh.

Meet Z. Leroy Santana! (name explanation follows)

I wanted to start him out on Linux, but the boyfriend insists on teaching Leroy to use a Mac first. Pfft.

The shelter said his name was Santana, but he doesn't seem to answer to it, so we renamed him. He just looked like a Leroy. We kept the name Santana in there because that's what he's registered under, and that's the name his vet has on file. The "Z" stands for Ziggy, as in Stardust.

The boyfriend works from home, so there's always someone there to take care of him.

YAY PUPPY!

He's a chihuahua mix. They're not quite sure what he's mixed with, though... they think maybe Welsh Corgi. He's bigger than a regular chihuahua and he has sort of a ruff of fur around his neck and on his back (but you can't tell from those pictures).

I've always wanted a Welsh Corgi. Chihuahua's are just kinda freaky tiny sometimes. He looks cute though. Congrats.

it looked like he had some chihuahua in him. he's definately a whole lot cuter and looks a lot more lovable than a full chihuahua.

I'll take this moment to declare that, after having taken care of one for several years, a grue makes a fine addition to any household.

I think just about half the dogs in Southern California resemble a chihuahua in some way. They're pretty popular pets out here.

A woman at the adoption place said she was from Compton, and there were packs of Chihuahuas that just roamed the streets. The mental image of a herd of feral Chihuahuas roaming the streets of Compton, menacing the passerby... hoo boy.

wild chihuahua attacks ... dunno if you'd die in terror or die laughing...

First off lol, did i miss something? You're a girl?? Second off, why do you keep refering to you're boyfriend as "the boyfriend"?

Hahaha, that sounds like what the next Taco Bell commercial woulda been if they hadn't stopped the Chihuahua commercials. Haha.

And you've been here for how long?

More pics to prove he's not a total chihuahua:

Yes, you missed something. Yes, I'm female.

I refer to my boyfriend as "the boyfriend" because its one of my verbal quirks. *shrug*

cute lil fella dont look like a puppy though

i might get a dog some day but for now id rather have a cat as pet cos cats are WAY easier to keep and dont need all the time n attention that dogs do . just feed them and take em to the vet from time 2 time and thats about it

Yeah, he's actually about a year old. Not quite a puppy.

Trust me when I say he's actually just as easy to take care of as a cat...actually, in my experience, easier, because he doesn't hoard bottle caps, lick the jam off toast sitting on the counter, or tear up furniture.

-The Boyfriend.

He hoards socks, though.

Yeah, but he loses interest in them pretty quickly, once the scent of foot has worn off. Cats keep those damn bottle caps for YEARS.

Posted by: redwench

but cats keep on giving. i get a nice little mouse as a present quite frequently, not to mention the hairballs.

Posted by: pdnielsen

he might be part miniature pincher and not Chihuahua at all. sometimes people get them confused because they look so much alike. The young woman I am seeing has a miniature pincher and I keep wanting to call him a Chihuahua. Anyway congrats. I'm not allowed a dog in my apartment, so my wireless keyboard has to do at keeping my lap warm for now...
