Stronghold 2 Error Writing to Drive C

I have recently installed Stronghold 2 on a PC (Windows 98 SE)
The game installed and ran but the graphics were scrambled.
I updated the 3d Accelleration card (NVidia GeForce) drivers to the most recent version. The graphics problem resolved and the game ran perfectly.
When running the game on the 3rd day after the installation the game loaded but immediately after the load indicator bar completed the screen went blue and displayed an error in DOS style saying that an error had been detected writing to drive C:. The system was then locked.
All other software and games are still working correctly. There is no problem with drive C: - only for Stronghold 2. Stronghold 1 is still on the machine and working fine.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Stronghold 2 - the problem remains.
Any suggestions

delete everything even th remaining directories and reinstall in a difrent directory

Try getting an update patch for the game. Download a new videocard driver from the videocard manufacturers home.
