CD Burner Disappeared

My CD/DVD Burner, which came with my computer and with which I have never had a problem for 2 years, disappeared. I tried to burn a cd with Nero, but the program acted like there was no cd burner available. So I tried Roxio Easy CD creator, and it flat out told me there was no cd burner available. So I popped an audio cd into the drive, and nothing happened; it wouldn't read it. So I open up Windows Explorer, and the drive isn't even shown. My other optical drive (CD/DVD read only) is there and working fine. Why did my burner disappear? I haven't used it in a few months, and haven't added any new software. As far as I know, everything on my system is essentially the same as the last time I used it. More importantly, how do I get it back?

My computer's a Dell Dimension 4550, and I'm running Windows XP home.

Try downloading a registry repair software.
