Wirless Router and Connection Speed

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have my laptop wirelessly connected to a router, then to the modem. I noticed that the connection speed slowed down a lot. Is this normal? Is there anyway that I could maintain the normal connection speed?

Who is the manufacturer of that router?

Posted by: zephyrspunk

It's a netgear router....and I supposedly have the best one out right now.....please...any help?....

try hooking up the laptop to the router through one of its ethernet ports to see if its a problem with your wireless card.

and then do the same directly to your internet connection, to rule out the router.

The speed is still slow....even when I connect my router to my laptop with an ethernet cable....

connect your laptop directly to the modem and bypass the router. let us know if its still slow. also power cycle your modem and router.

I've tried everything....power circuiting the modem, the router...the connection speed goes up when I connect the laptop straight to the modem, and bypass the router.....but when I connect the router....the speed goes down.....any solutions?

Then the problem lies in your router. Get it replaced by returning it to netgear if its under waranty or by returning it to the store and saying its faulty or defective. Or, if you have the money, just get a new one.
