Flatpanel advice

Hi all, I'm looking to get myself a new flatpanel monitor, but don't know much about them.. I know that I want 8MS (or less) refresh time, and that it has to be 19" (with a rez of around 1820x1024) - but anymore than this, I don't know.
I've got a budget of around £200 (I know most of you are american, but in theory we should be able to buy the same monitors here as you guys can get, so that's around $350), but can go over that if I'm getting a good deal.
I don't need speakers, but i DO need a DVI connection on it.
So, guys, any suggestion? cheers.

This is the best I could find for your budget: Acer 19" LCD AL1914MS TCO99 Monitor, Multimedia, Silver/Black. It got DVI (Checked at ACER home) O.K. it's 9 pounds more than what you wished for ( £209.00). But that's not too much I'll guess.

I read quite many customers reviews. And they seem to like it much.

Thank you for the suggestion, looks good - but not as good as this one: http://www.aldi.co.uk/special_buys/product_426.html (mainly because of the brightness). But I'm still open to suggestions

Yeah, it looks good...on "the paper".
But I would'nt go for some generic piece of....
I guess you made the old mistake, staring yourself blind on the timings.
But have in mind, that a 8 Ms LCD. is'nt running at that speed all the time. Most LCD.s go a bit "roller coaster". And is sometimes even up to 20 - 25 Ms.

I realise that the responce time can vary, and that the 8ms quoted is only under 'optimum' settings (something like from black to white) - but I'd rather go for one that's listed at 8ms - because at least it has the ability to be that fast (rather than starting at a base unit of, say, 25ms, and having groovy 'hangover' effects on my screen ).
My mum has a monitor from the same company, and it's been fine since she's got it - I don't know exactly which one she's got - but whatever it is, this one is better.
I'm still open to suggestions, and will be until thursday (which is when I plan on buying *whichever* one I choose), so I'm still looking for a deal - I just want to make sure I get something good.

If you want something really good? then look at Samsung.

OK, how about this? http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...50429,41766&v=2 (I was looking at it before, but rejected it for some reason, can't remember why - maybe because it didn't have a DVI connection on it)

Now you're talking!

The cheepest samsung I can see that supports DVI is £275 - that's way over budget...
Posted by: goranpaa
But why do you need DVI?

Becaise it's better than VGA - as my friend said:

No!!!!
Are you insane?
DVI is digital and VGA is analogue. It's not just a matter of screen
adjust - it's a matter of Medium Wave Vs DAB, it's a matter of Analgue
Channel 5 Vs Cable/Freeview, it's a matter of VHS versus DVD!
Don't do it!
You'll never get as good a picture with it as you will with a DVI signal

How about this: http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/searc...asterid=9973500 (£50 over budget, but if it's good quality...

O.K. Lol! You get the same monitor 1 pound cheaper at komplett.
Yeah, that is the monitor I think about getting soon.
Posted by: Daniel
Ah yes, great minds think alike.. I'll be ordering that tonight then - with luck I'll have it by thursday

O.K. would be fun, to hear from you. And hear your thoughts about the mon?

If you don't need this right away, my advice would to be watch slickdeals.net for deals on Dell flat panels... Although I can't stand Dell computers (long story), their LCDs are some of the best, right next to Samsung, IMHO. I'm also not sure on their refresh rate.... but man, those are nice LCDs!!! (I have a 19 inch at my office and I love it!)

OK, well I've ordered that Samsung - I don't know when it's going to be delievered - either thursday or friday if I'm lucky (cos I'm off work).. I'll let you know what I think..
(BTW, I read on one of the review sites that Samsung have a policy of replacing the monitor in the first 3 years if it develops any dead, dark or bright pixels - if that is the case, then I'm happy I went with them.)
Posted by: goranpaa
Nice with that replacement policy! That I did'nt know about.
Samsung, Dell and Acer are the best flatpanels you can get.
Some of the Viewsonics is also said to be nice.
