Sounds to me like you either downloaded a trojan or some adware. You might want to run McAfee Antivirus or Norton Virus Scan as soon as possible. If you downloaded a trojan recently it could end up putting a lot of fake files under fictional names that are just duplicates of itself on the drive. You might try <start> <all programs> <accessories> <system tools> <clean up> too. It also could be something innocent like temporary files that shut down hasn't deleted. If you try that just make sure that the "temporary files" box is selected.

It is constantly askin Sygate for permission to connect to a remote activation??? Methinx I have somethin that has somehow compromised Avast as it is askin all the time to connect too...even when I have just run an update ???

ok had enuff of this crap am gonna take out me ram & let it sit on a shelf for 2 days & then when I replace it I will be formatting!
Have tried a Pandascan which earned me a shutdown & that generally indicates a trojan from past experience so seems to be most logical way to go Thanx for replies
