--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey everyone, I got the game sims2 over last summer and tried to install it on my dads computer but it wouldnt let us because of direct x 9.0. Well we gave up on that(it was a pretty old computer) I installed it on my aunts computer after that and it worked but went really really really slow! she bought her dell about 2 and a half years ago. Then I tried it on my grandmothers comp and it worked pretty good but kept closing itself and her comp is about 5 years old so we gave up on that too and bought me a brand new dell of my own. I went to install it and it was just recently. so it installed 40% of the way and stopped to let me put in the second installation cd, so I did and it just completely stopped the instalation. The mini game was still working fine too. So I tried again and again and gave up and went to install the part of sims2 i had installed and it didnt let me. since then I started to have A LOT of problems with my computer. It got so bad that I had to restor my comp back to factory settings. I know most of my problems werent just from sims it was probably kazaa too. Well Now that my computer is restored and working i want to try to install sims2 again but im afraid itll mess it up again, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me or tips, ANYTHING! please help I`m dying to play this game! thank you!!!

check that both cds/dvds are in good condition before installing, and that windows is fully updated. other than that, give the error message you get if any.

Can you describe in more detail the error, is it just stopping? Erroring? Freezing? Or just not getting past a certain point. I asusme you are using Windows XP...have you installed Service Pack 2, and ran all the Windows Updates and Hotfixes with Windows Automatic Updates and the www.microsoft.com updates page?

I`m pretty sure I have all the updates, I could check to see but I need instructions on how to do it if you could help me with that. What it was doing was once I put in the first cd it would install that which was 40% of the install then it would ask for the second cd and i would put it in and the installation would just stop completely. the computer didn`t freeze or anything just the installation. Now I`m just wondering if that now that my comp is restored if I should try again or not and what to do if it messes my comp up again...

If you had Kazza and similar spyware infested crap on your machine I'm not suprised you had problems. If you've got rid of this with a re-format you should be OK to install Sims2, however I feel I must ask "What graphics card does your machine have?" as the answer to this may prevent further heartache.

I dont have kazaa anymore, I restored my comp back to factory settings and the comp works fine. I dont exactly know how to find the graphics card so....hehe help?!

You can go into device manager and have a look under display adapters or get Everest Home Edition and that'll tell you just about everything about your PC.
