Directx 9.0 issue

I too have problems with the Directx 9.0 and Sims 2. I purchased an ATI Radeon 9250 256 mb 64 bit video card and installed it in a pci slot on my motherboard. When I plug the monitor into the port nothing happens, my computer boots up, but nothing comes on the monitor.
When I run the Sims 2 game, I get that same old error like everyone else does. It says I need a Directx compatible graphics adapter. I have been baffled for months over this.
I need help.
I have a
Gateway Intel Celeron 1200mhz
512 mb ram
Directx 9.0c
Intel 82815 Graphics Controller
EV700 Monitor
OS Service Pack 2
Display 3d adapter - Intel i752
I purchased this video card because it was recommended by Gateway, but didn't buy it through them as it was much more expensive. My daughter got the Sims2 game for Xmas last year and has not been able to play it.
Hope someone here can help me.

Okay.
1. Have you installed drivers for the card in windows?
2. Do you have the newest copy of directx installed?
3. Did you disable the integrated graphics card on your motherboard in BIOS?
4. Does the card have multiple VGA or DVI/VGA ports? Is it plugged into the right one?
Are you running windows XP?
Have you searched the Sims KB?

After downloading the latest Catalyst off the ATI website and opening up the file, it read..
Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.
Not sure what this means.

That means, that you maybe have'nt pushed the card all the way down in the slot.
Or as Zakir indicates. You must disable the old integrated videochip in BIOS, Under "Integrated Perferials".

Thanks. I remember when I installed the video card in the PCI slot I made sure that it was down enough , hope that I didn't push it in too hard. Is there any slot that is better than the other? I have 2 empty slots. There is another card in the 3rd slot, but it is for the phone line(which I no longer use).
I will check to make sure that the BIOS has been changed to PCI. Is that correct?
Also, once I do that, do I plug my monitor into the back of the new card and let the it boot up?
This is driving me crazy, but is a challenge if you know what I mean.

When you go into your bios, there should be an option to enable/disable onboard video. You have to disable your onboard video and then reboot with the monitor plugged into the video card. At which point you can install the drivers. If you still have problems, try switching the card to another PCI slot.

Thanks I will try this. I have ddne so many things to get this to work I am not sure what I have tried and what I haven't. I do remember disabling the onboard video card and then rebooting, but do not remember having the monitor plugged into the new card. At one point I remember when I did reboot, the monitor did absolutely nothing, while the computer was continually booting.
I will try this tomorrow when I have a clearer head.
Thanks.
