block a certain radio station?

Is there any type of device that can block a certain FM radio frequency? I allow my guys in the shop i work at to play radios, but theres this one guy that plays the Gangster rap station, and its not very client friendly. The clients come into the shop often, and i dont want to remove ALL the radios. When approached about his choice in work-music, he tells me that if he's got to turn his off, everyone needs to turn theirs off. This is only fair, i agree, but to add to it, the guys a complete jack-ass. So, is there a cheap way to do this?

Fire him.

If you're the boss, you have control over your employee's actions. Make a list of acceptable radio stations, or tell him to get headphones (or buy him headphones). Playing music while working is a privilege, not a right, and you have every right to dictate how the shop is run.

You're the boss and he's telling you how things work?

thats the problem

or you could just tell him that he's driving business away and to stop playing that radio station or find a different job. you'e the boss!

If you're worried about "freedom of expression", remember that this only applies to public places, not private establishments. You as the boss have the power to dictate what is allowed in the workplace that "you" supervise. Tell him that "his" kind of music isn't conducive to business. Say that he can listen to it but he should use headphones. If he acts like an ass, fire him. If he gives you grief, fire him.

Hell, if he even as much as answers back, threaten to fire him. If you're worried about a lawsuit, don't worry. If he's willing to spend money and hire a lawyer just to justify playing "gangster" rap in a workplace, then it's his own funeral.

If you let him run all over you, it's only a matter of time before the other workers do the same...

thanks for the replies. The thing is, im just a supervisor, and in our shop i unfortunately dont have the option to hire/fire. (i work at a small buisness) Whenever i bring it up (the radios) to the big guy, all he says is its all or none basically. this is why i want to "jam" that one radio station. the big guy doesnt see the frowns on the clients faces when Snoop Drippy Drog and Jammaster Delicious are blasting, i do.

rofl. seriously, there shouldnt be competing radio stations at a work place. designate a station (that everyone can live with) or insist on no radios or headphones. i wouldnt single his out, there are people that are equally offended by rush limbaugh or country music. i would suggest headphones myself, but im silly. it wouldnt be acceptable to block a particular station, even if you could.

yeah... just have them use headphones then... if they refuse, then have them turn off ALL their radios. It's a pretty acceptable compromise to me. In my opinion, radios blaring in a workplace isn't really a good working environment anyway, unless you run a music shop... or a grocery store...

Jams all FM signals.... but made an interesting point. You can use the Jammer to force your signal over everyone elses......

BTw.... this sort of technology is not considered legal

I'm probably too late in this, but fire his ass, or since you're only the suprevisor, tell the boss to.

On another note, if you want just one work-friendly station to listen while you work, I'd suggest CD 101.9 (Cool Jazz, baby!)

Not that it is completely relevant, but what type of workplace are we talking about here?

I work at a manufacturing plant where we build sportfishing yachts. More specifically, I work in the cabinet making shop. We do some pretty crazy stuff with wood! It pretty loud inside the shop, so this is why most of the radios are turned up a bit loud.

Flip out at him, just grab his radio and smash it to pieces. Then call him a stupid idiot and tell him to find a new job.

To mess up a certain frequency, just get another device that transmits on the same frequency. Youy will either receive both frequency's, but more likley, you will just hear static with both frequencys transmiting. I often stop getting a signal ffrom my wireless router because my cordless phone runs on the same frequency.
