Try Mozilla Firefox instead.
A much better browser.

IE 6 is much safer than previous versions. Could you post exactly what the error says.

I do have Firefox, and use it,but some major sites require Internet Explorer as much as i don't like it.

Like windowsupdate.com

Yes of coarce. But as your "everyday browser" Firefox will be o.k. There is'nt that many sites that does'nt allow F.F.

Or download IE 6 again and reinstall / repair it.
Otherwise, run a registry repair software.

Here is a download link for IE6

I have tried downloading new IE6,but I get a message that the verison in my computer is the latest and and will not install, also have latest version on cd with latest service pack, also will not let me install same reason.

Then run a repair installation of XP.

This is how you do it: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

But uninstall your videocard driver first, if it is'nt WHQL certified or if you are unsure.

When you return to Windows after the repair, you will find that all is as it whas before.
Except you will have to reinstall SP2 and additional Windows updates. And the videocard driver of coarce.
