I have a gateway 450 mhz with 3 hard drives. The other night, the thing just shut down. After about 30 minutes, it would finally power back up. The two harddrives on the primary ide aren't recognized in the bios, but the hdd and cd rom on the secondary are. I tried switching them around and now the hdd and cd rom are recognized on the primary and the two other hdds are not recognized on the secondary. I pluged a spare hdd into the secondary and that is not recognized..........what's going on????

I'll bring the marshmellows

Check the power cables on the drives that aren't working. Try swapping the power cable from one of the working drives to one of the non working drives and see if it is recognized.

ssalmi ,

Might have overloaded the PSU and fried the hd. And yes, the only thing worse than a Gateway, is Gateway repair services... but don't get me started.

e-machines are worse.

yes... but dell support wins the award of worst tech support.... but gateway has really dumb people.... like the one who started yelling at me that my power supply had a virus and that I was a stupid n00b because I didn't realize that norton is just a scam and if your virus scanner doesn't take up at least 256 mb of ram, then it isn't working correctly guy.
