Hi... my cousin has built a computer on his own, but how do we make it run widows xp, what kind of cd do we need, and do we have to do something to run or what... plz help me

You need a Windows XP cd (preferably a legal one).
You will also have to go into BIOS at boot, making a small adjustment.
This you do by pressing the "Delete key" at first boot screen. Then change the "Boot order" from the floppy, to the CD or DVD drive. Setting it as nr 1.
Save the setting in BIOS. Drop the Windows XP CD into the CD / DVD ROM and reboot. Then follow instructions given by the Windows install program.

When you drop that Windows CD into your CD reader.
The first thing you see, is a menue and you are beeing asked what you want to do?
Then you choose "Install Windows XP".
Then it says, that it recommends an upgrade of the Windows you already got installed, right?
But if you look closely. Then you see that you can change that to "New installation (advanced)".
So set the tab to that "New installation" instead.
BUT! If you drop it into the CD ROM. And reboot.
You will be asked to continue, by pressing any key. After the first boot screen.
That is, IF you have changed the boot order? I whas talking about before.
Do you recognize any of the Pictures from the Windows XP you got?
OR Horrible suspicion!!! Are you trying too install a so called " recovery CD" version of Windows XP on that machine!?
This, you can forget!

So what you are saying, is that this PC already have Windows 2000 installed?
Then just choose Upgrade.
Or put the XP CD into the CD drive and reboot.
Then follow the instructions, And you will be able to remove the old Win. 2000 and install Home instead.
