Need router help, again!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Once again i fail at properly configuring my router... You see, I"m trying to forward the correct ports so i can play stronghold online. The ports are UDP/TCP 2300-2400 and 6073.

I tried putting them in and saving, but my friend still wasn't able to connect to the server i made...

I took a screenshot of what i typed in, which i don't think it right because i still can't do multiplayer...

Can you guys help me out here? What exactly should i put in? And btw, i had the protocals on tcp and udp, and it still didn't work, so i just left it on both(blank).

Are you sure leaving the protocol field blank means that it'll use both TCP and UDP? You might have to set up different entries for TCP and UDP.

And isn't 192.168.1.1 the router's IP address? You're supposed to fill out your computer's IP address there.

No, thats my ip address, and yes leaving the field black does represent both. I just need someone to instruct me on what to put on the first line for start to end and the protocol and for the second line.

Your start and end values are correct.

According to the manual, you should be able to select 'Both' under protocol instead of just leaving it blank.
Quote:

Protocol. Enter the protocol used for this application, either TCP or UDP, or Both.

Are you really sure 192.168.1.1 is your computer's IP address? Because that's the router's default address, which would mean you manually changed your router's IP address in it's options screen. If you didn't change any of the DHCP settings, your computer's IP address should be 192.168.1.xxx (where xxx is 100 or higher). You can find out what your computer's IP address is by typing 'ipconfig' in a command prompt.

I think its 192.168.1.100... Does that sound right? Thats what it says under ipconfig. And should i be posting my ip address on the internet... I mean i trust you guys, but anyone can look at this site!

Posted by: Outlaw

Yeah, that would be it. And don't worry, that's your internal network IP address, nobody can do anything with it. They'd need your internet IP address first.

You also want to make sure your DMZ has the internal IP address. Without the DMZ, the router is not going to know WHERE to send the requests from the external address.

Posted by: Outlaw

No, DMZ simply forwards all ports to a specified computer, instead of just the ones you need.

To find your IP adress, type in 'ipconfig' in the comand prompt.

Never mind, i figured it all out, thanks anyway guys.

/thread.

Good

So can you post the resolution to your original problem?

Posted by: Kittie_Killer

Resolution looks like it was:

1. no protocol specified in port forwarding

2. wrong IP used to forward (had 192.168.1.1, s/b 192.168.1.100)
