Overclocking

I'm at a little bit of a loss for words. I finally built my Pentium III computer a few weeks ago. I couldn't afford the $200 1Ghz P3, so I bought a retail version 800 Mhz Celeron for $54.
Now the 1 Ghz P3 has a 133:133:33 ratio for the normal speed.
The 800 Mhz Celeron is supposed to run at 100:100:33 ratio.
It's been running so cool (28-30 C) in this huge tower I bought, I decided to try overclocking.
I set the BIOS ratio at 133:133:33 to get a Celeron at 1066 Mhz. Temperature of the CPU is running about 32-34 C. Everything is cool with the stock fan. Although I do have 5 other super-quiet fans in the case, I can't hear them.
So I ran a couple of benchmarks. The first one showed my ratings so high I thought something was wrong. I downloaded SisSandra and ran it. Look at the attachment of what I got.
So somebody tell me if there is a better benchmark out there. Because if my little Celeron is trashing a Pentium 4 @ 1.2 Ghz, I'd like to know the reason for it.

I started stressing the Celeron to run at 100% utilization. My temperature rose to 46-48 C and is steady there.
Which reminds me, why does Rain (the download) specify it's use for Windows NT and Windows 2000? It's only useful for Win 9x and Win ME. Windows NT and Windows 2000 don't run the CPU unnecessarily.

That isn't a bad overclock at all. The benchmarks aren't that bad in all actuality. You have to remember though, the P4 is different than the Celeron and Pentium 3 systems. It's slower in many things, yet is very powerful in multi-media. A pentium 3 at 1ghz will in fact, beat a Pentium 4 in alot of benchmarks that are around, but it won't beat the P4 in some multi-media type benchmarks. A Celeron is a little bit slower than a P3 though, mainly from the lack of L2 Cache. But other than that, the Celeron is a decent enough processor for the price.
Those temperatures aren't to bad, but just watch the high-end tempatures. To much above 40 can be a bad thing, but I've heard of Celeron's running stable at over 60C before. If you're really willing to push the limit, look for a really nice heatsink and fan combo and do use some Artic Silver Thermal Paste and you'll see lower temperatures and more of a horizon in the overclock, if your components will handle it.
Rain, is not meant for Windows 2000 or NT. Rain runs the Idle codes that are not integrated with Windows 95/98/ME. Only use Rain if you're not using windows NT platforms.
If you want to know anything else, just ask.

lol, a little too late for that warning ... he already did it

I wouldn't use the arctic silver unless it won't bother you much to lose your CPU. The chances are extremely slim, but Arctic Silver can become electrically conductive and short your CPU out.
Then again, you're overclocking so I guess that warning is useless. Still, you could damage your Megahertz!

Well, Artic Silver II is very good as in thermal paste, but it does have it's "fair share" of problems, but as of lately, it's been the choice of many overclockers. Thermal compounds are very nice choices for overclocking, since they transfer heat faster than thermal tape. The best idea though, is a nice heatsink/fan combonation, you'll find you'll lower the temperature more by just adding a new heatsink/fan combo than any thermal compounds, though they do help, the best option is a bigger and better cooling system.
And Laggy, as for the warning, I just figured I'd state that for you, so you couldn't be held responsible in any way. Not that you would be held liable by the loyal users, some other people might see it and think it's a nice idea and do it and fry something then not get their warranties to work and come back here yelling at you.

Thanks AOD, much appreciated, although I'm sure Kane nows what he's doing ... he wouldn't be in the OTS staff otherwise
