Laptop Q

These are my important notebook specs

intel pentium M 740 centrino 1.73 GHZ

ATI Mobility Radeon X700 64 mb dedicated

512 DDR2 4200 RAM

100 gig hard drive 5400 rpm

The problem is of course graphics. I was told I could upgrade the graphics when I purchased the notebook. Larry the Laptop Fibber was obviously just that, but I was so excited I found a laptop with a 17" screen that was upgradable for 1500 bucks I believed Larry the Laptop Fibber. Silly me.

Anyway, I talked with a friend of mine who works at intel. She said there should be a spot on the graphics thingy where I can insert more ram on the video. I've never heard of anything like this, and went through the normal "Are you sure you don't mean just add more RAM to the notebook itself?" She insisted it was smaller than normal ram, and that it was put directly into the gpu that is surgically welded into the motherboard. She lives in Oregon, and I live on the east coast US, so showing me in person is kinda out. If this is feasible, whelp, I would be more than a little happy, if not, here are my questions.
The two pc's I can exchange it for are here:

Toshiba (+300 dollars US)

HP

Now both of these laptops have ati mobility radeon x600 128's for graphics, not x700 64's.

The x700, to my understanding, is a better design, yes?

So, my last inquery would be, if I took this notebook, and upgraded to a gig of RAM instead of the 512 mb on the board now, would the extra ram in the case make up for the lack of ram on the graphics unit? If that were the scenerio I would just do that, as I am pretty fond of this pc. I'm not playing Doom 3 online, but I'm not playing solitaire either (I was bogging down with all the graphic options set to minimum on Knights of the Old Republic in their more graphically intense areas, fine in buildings and such, not so ood on landscapes).

So pick a solution, as I can't decide, since I really do not know the answers to this one. Oh, and "Go shop at Alienware" or "Buy a desktop" is not a posted option for solutions ;^) .

Take care, and thanks.

Ces
