Hi
I am looking to get some new ram for mp Pc wats to go now a days ddr sdr ?
and wat is over kill 1gb 2gb 3gb 4gb ram ?????

Hi!

Well, if you're not playing games like BF2? Then 1 gig is enough.
More than 2 gig is overkill.

Corsair
Kingston
Or why not try the ones I use? G.Skill. VERY nice RAM.

Is it standard or high speed RAM you want?.
What speed does your mobo support?
Does it support DDR2?

even if you're not doing gaming... but video editing, high end graphics design... or enjoying using everything at open at once... 2 gb can be a nice upgrade from 1 gb.

Keep in mind how much you can upgrade to. How many ram slots do you have? While looking at more ram I realized that I had two sticks of 256 and only had two slots and that to upgrade to 1 GB I would have to by two sticks of 512 instead of just one one. This was out of my buget. Also, pay close attention to exactly what type of ram youy have (the brand really doesn't matter) as it would be a real real pain to purchase and install ram and then find out you have the wrong type. And remember, Windows will take advantage of all the ram you have, so if you get more ram and find that your available physical memory is still the same, don't worry because this is normal.
By the way, how much ram do you have now?

Thx for your help ......
There are 4 slots and i have 1.25gb

Good.
Just buy the same type and speed. It does'nt have to be the same manufacturer though.

how do i know the type and speed ?

Download "Everest Home".

A tip, buying RAM: It's better to get 1 gig high quality / high speed RAM, than 2 gig of some cheap stuff.

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $123.00

This is the ones I got:
G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $145.00

newegg.

Use this online scanner to find out what type of memory you need, then search online and at stores to find the best price.

Here is the everest home scan

Can you tell me what i have and what i need?

O.K. Your RAM is : Nanya DDR PC 3200 ( 184 pin). And 2 X Nanya DDR PC 2100.
Wich means, that your RAM runs in PC 2100 Speed.

This is a make, I never heard of before. So I can't tell you how they are?

But this is a good alternative: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $82.25.

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - Retail $214.99 newegg.

That is, if you find the ones I suggested before too expensive?

And If I where you, I would take out your old ones, and keep them in reserve.

it that the ones ?

Posted by: Bix VT

no. that is ddr2, which won't fit in your motherboard. if I were you, I would stick to buying ram of Newegg, they are far more reliable than anyone on ebay, and the prices aren't going to be much different. plus, Newegg never rapes you on shipping.

Posted by: goranpaa

Agree with Bix.
And newegg have a great customer service from what I heard. E-bay is more of a gambling.
If you buy from newegg or Tiger direct, you are pretty safe.
