Hard Drive not assigned a letter

Hey all,

I just installed a new Seagate 120gb harddrive and loaded windows xp on it. I have a slave drive from my old PC it is a maxtor 40gb. I installed the slave properly and the windows boot recognized both drives. However the drive is not showing up in my local drives. Both drives are showing up in device manager, so i figured I needed to assign the drive a letter, but the slave is not showing up in the drive manager either.

I dont want to reformat the drive because I have files that I need on it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you reformat the drive?

If you did'nt? Then go to the control panel " Administration tools". "Computer management" and Disk Management. And reformat the drive.

Or: 1. From the Start menu, click Run.
2. In the Open box, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

Back them up on CD:s or DVD:s.
A thing you should do on monthly basis anyway.
Or download a trial of Acronis True Image 8.0 And make a clone, that you can put on the other drive while reformatting this drive. And then put it back via Acronis.

There is no other work around, if you wanna be able to use this drive.

Yeah, or you could just use any removable media such as a flash drive or a zip drive if you have one
