My computer is dieing

I have an Alienware area 51 laptop, I bought in 2003, and I have never had a problem with it until now. After prolonged Video game playing the game will freeze for a second, start to try to minimize, and then the computer crashes, power off. No error, at least i dont think thiers an error, with the video game up I cant see whats behind it. And if i try to immediatly power the computer back on it will crash again or just wont boot peroid.
After every crash thier seems to be an after shock crash, nomatter how long its been sinse the last crash if i start a game again, in about 5 minutes it will crash again, if the two crashes are somwhat close together it will stop crashign for a while but will eventualy crash again. Somtimes It will work for a whole day, but thats rare, It used to happen abotu once a day, now its become much more frequent.
I Assumed that this meant my graphix card must be over heating. But this problem will occur immediatly after powering on the computer after being off for a long time. I check the graphix card core temp and I've had crashes as low as 40~50, ushally it gets to 73~76 after playign a game for a long time.
The crashes Only seem to start when I play video games, even old games like quake can cause it. So I know it has somthing to do with the graphix card. the only other time the crashes occur are when I try to turn the computer on too soon after a "from game crash".
my graphix card is a Nvidia Geforce Go5600. I attached my Dxdiag.txt
I also got an "corrupt or missing \windows\system32\config\system~~~~" error. On one start up, but I havnt recived that error again. I tried usign my recovery CD and as its loading files it can never finsih because the system will crash.
When I had Adaware installed it kept detecting some viruses, named kitrana or somthing, but it could never do anything about them, and avg constanly updated itself and would minimize my games all the time (thiers nothign like lining up a headshot on counter strike only yo be sent to the desktop and coem back to the game dead). Avg pissed me off, it was worse than a virus itself and it did nothing. I think avg has become a crap program just liek norton.
Im ordering a laptop cooler to try to decrease my systems temeture, but I dont think thats the problem, as I get these crashes nomatter what the tempature.
I dont know what my is wrong with my computer but alienware is not built for gaming, in fact I can do anything but gaming on this computer.

format and reinstall the os, youve obviously had malware corrupting the system for a long time.

I have had the whole computer erased and had all new crap put on it, new OS and everything. That was ealier this year. Your saying that has to be done again? Also i just cleaned my keybord and fans and I still have problem, seems on every forum i look cleaning the fans never solves anything.
How does malware affect my videogames, with malrats? liek OMgoshes!

A virus could infect the program files of some of your games (if you've done a complete install or even just a partial install), which could majorly screw things up.

Well I found the Virus I had Thier was 8 files detected. I deleted them all. I think the main file was this one; Kartinka.jar-61c6fd13-5db0cf72.zip (the little kids that make virus's make up the only case's where I would consider it ok to shoot little kids in the head)
It was deep inside my C: drive in a lot of java folders.
Anyway my virus detector don't dectect anymore viruses. I dont think this is the problem either, though I have not totaly cancelled it out. In any case the crashing during video game problem has now become so severe I cant play video games anymore. The longest duration I can get is about 3 minutes before a crash.
Yesterday I played Quake 4 all the way past becoming a strog and more and the system ran ok. In fact I dont think my sytem ever crashed playing Quake 4 yet. But every other game does crash. I'll check Q4 again to see if its an exception.
Thier was a lot of dust on my fan and the vents it blows out of, but cleaning those did nothing. Maybe I have to disassemble the fan to find more dust?
I think this is a hardware problem having to do with my graphix card being sucky. Anyone will tell you the 5600 sux @ss. But when I went to the Alienware parts website to find a better card they only had the same sucky card. I may end up selling this computer for parts.

Well its now 2006 and my Computer is still a POS. Alienware was a big mistake, I've researched problems with alienware, hoping to find one simular to mine maybe for a soultion and found countless horror stories.
In anycase I'm too newb to reformat, I would just end up messing up the computer more, so Im taking my POS to a freind to reformat for me. I guess if reformatting dont help I know its a hardware problem.
I've tried reinstalling DirectX, updated graphix driver, cleaned cookies, ran disk check thingy, ran this ewido anti-malware, found 230 infected files. Wow you where right there was some malware, guess I should stay off the porn sites I uninstalled all unessesary programs and backed up all my files (for the reformat) and I shutdown many background processes. I also ran the system tools, then I discovered somthing, I cant finish defragmenting my drive, half way thro my computer will crash.
So video games and defragmenting both cause a power off no error crash, so what do they both have in common that could cause a crash? They are both demanding on system resources! I bet somthings sapping my system and when I run these programs my alien cant handle it and crashes. So maybe thiers still some virus or somthing in my system. I was hoping to purge my computer clean and fix the problem that way, but I think reformating will be the only way.

It maybe the systems ram that is doing it. If you have 2 sticks of ram try taking one out then try a game then if still crashes . Swap the ram around and try again.. then try a ram tester.. if dose not fix or find a problem you now know its no your system ram..
Posted by: Akrid
Ya the idea of bad ram occured to me. Its a real pain to get to the sticks tho, I got to take out all these screws and remove the keybord and stuff. Last time I looked inside there was wires that where connected to each side of the computer and had rubber ball ends that did nothing. Alienware is weird. I hate laptops, I would sell it but I dont like the idea of selling somthing broken, if I can get it to work right then I'll ebay it before it gives me some other problem. Cant I run a ram tester first?

Ok I tried playing Counter Strike Source with only one stick of ram then the other, It crashed both times. So I think the ram is good.
I know my HDD is messed becasue I cant fully defragment it, i dont know if thats from all the random shutdowns or if thats the cause of the problem.
I have still yet to reformat it, I know how now (It looks easy to do) so ill try that. Once I get back to my city where I got my Windows CD. If that dont fix the problem, ill throw it out my window from 8 floors high, and that shud fix it from having anymore problems ever.

Dont I just pop in the windows OS CD and choose a option that lets me reformat? I have the retail payed for legitmant honest non-criminal Windows Xp home CD. I also have the recovery cds that came with the computer but when I tried to use those the computer crashed. I hope I can reformat without crashing!!!! If it crashes trying to reformat I will be screwed.
Posted by: redwench
yes, booting from teh cd and starting with partitioning will do it. although why you would be concerned about crashing during a format is beyond me
Posted by: Akrid
Well I had this recovery CD from Alienware I tried to use once and it would start to load files then it would crash the computer, so Im afraid it may do the same thing when I try the windows CD. I let you know how it goes in a couple days.
I just discovered something. I only seem to get crashes in 3D games that are also online, like Counter Strike and Lineage2. I played Quake4 fine on single player. I also managed to join a server made by a friend of mine and we played for nearly a hour, no crash. In normal online games now my system is sure to crash within 5 to 10 minutes. Also recently I started getting a blue screen error on faulty startups (where I tried to turn on the computer after a crash too soon) The error message was something like c000021a numbers and junk I couldn't understand. Somthings amidst!!

I CANT REFORMAT!!!!! I knew it!!! it crashes, but the first tiem it failed afetr giving me this error;
File adpu160m.sys caused an enexpected error (4096) at line 3540 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c.
Then I cried
Also I was never given any option to partition, afetr puttign in the CD and booting from CD it started on its own loading files, but it fails or crashes each time.
I noticed when tryign to install Gothic2 the computer didnt want to read the disc, afetr it finaly did I found it wouldnt read it again to play the game, so I had to crack it (I bought the game) Anyway I think my Cdrom is dead or rly messed up at least. The error said D: drive! thats my Cdrom drive. So Possibly one problem is preventing another from beign fixed, and by not being able to fix my crashing problem my HDD is dieng from all the random shutdowns. So basicly Alienwares suck bad, never buy one, ever.
Im beggining to lose hope, I may sell for parts.

Does it give the same error every time you try? I'm leaning towards CD drive, memory, corrupt CD, HD, some other random component based on your description of the problem. Can you get access to a USB CD/DVD drive to test whether the drive or CD is the problem?
Posted by: Akrid
I dont have a external CD-rom anymore so I cant test the CD-rom, And I really dotn even want to test it, I know its busted, What I woudl liek to do it get a external cd-rom (Im finding them to be a key tool in PC trouble shooting) and use it to run the windows CD, the CD is good, brand new out of the box, and the one that came with the computer is fine too, they just dont work with the aleinware.
And ys same error everytime, if it dosnt crash.
