Sims 2 won't work!

Hey guys, I am new to the forum!
I need hepl with my newly pruchased sims 2. Everytime I load it, it says:
"Failed to initialize Direct3D!
Please make sure DirectX 9 has been installed on this system.
The application will now terminate..."
I was real excited to get this game, and now I can't play it! Thank-you in advance for the help!

What videocard do you got?
If you don't know? look in Windows device manager.
Download a new driver for your videocard, at the videocard manufacturers home.
Go: "Start" + "Run".
In "Run" type, dxdiag.
Check out if you have direct X 9.0 or not?
If you find you dont have direct X 9.0?
Go to Microsoft home and download it.
