Yet another question...about my hard drive!

I got SiSoft Sandra a long time ago, and I really dont know how accurate it is, but never the less, I ran tests and all that good stuff.

My hard drive is an Ultra Ata 100(i think) 60gb. Im running Windows Me.

Now on my hard drive, it says that I have 5% slack. Is that bad? I really dont know what that means, except slack means like a loose area. Is there anyway to get rid of this slack? I have defraged, and that has not solved the problem.

Now the next question, It tells me that I dont have fat32 and I should use it yet the file system is Fat32.

And finnaly my last question, I have already changed my PC role to "network server" as it said and it seems to run a little better. But I use cacheman to manage my memory better. Thus it reduces my Disk Cache to about 25mb. SiSoft is saying that I must have 25% of my system memory as a Disk Cache. I have 256mb ram but do I really need a 25% of memory disk cache?

I would run a benchmark but I heard that it can stress your hardware, and I dont really want to do that.

From the Help File:

Slack - the percentage of disk space wasted due to large cluster size. This number should be as small as possible, preferably under 10-20%.

I've seen other little "bugs" in SiSoft Sandra. I would recommend you purchase their full version if you really expect accurate information.

Set your file cache like you want. It really depends on what your computer is doing.

I use it about 90% for games, 10% internet surfing and 10% music/videos/misc.

I leave 2 computers on all the time with both running SETI. Trust me, you're not going to overstress your hardware. It's made to last for years. As long as cooling isn't an issue, you're fine. And from the temps you posted earlier, it looks like it's not a factor for you.

yeah, i dont think ill have a prob with overheating, i just want my stuff to last a long time. On my really old pentium 133, when it was a 33mhz system, i had a hard drive fail and IBM wouldnt accept the warranty because they "didnt make that one" anymore or some crap. I guess Im a bit more cautious.

I really just want my computer to run as best as possible, but who doesnt? I learn something new almost daily off these forums and other places and they seem to increase my computers performance as well.
