Question about using two routers in the same house

Hi,
This may seem like a silly question, but here goes anyway:
I share a Verizon DSL connection with a roommate who lives across the house and a floor below me. He has a desktop and I have a laptop. He is plugged into a wireless router. Right now, I'm using the wireless connection, but it's not very strong, and I need a reliable connection. So, I'd like to plug directly in, but I'd rather not run a really long wire from his room all the way to mine. My questions are:
1) Is there any problem with having two separate routers plugged into two separate jacks on the same phone line?
2) If not, should I get a router that has wireless capability or not? Does it matter at all?
Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

you should be able to get a bigger antenna for the existing router, especially if the router is a linksys... they run about $50 for the antenna... just be sure to get a promise from the store that you can return it if it doesn't solve your weak signal issue...

well, the purpose of a router is to allow multiple computers to share one connection. you have no need of a router if youre both going to plug directly into the lines. what you need is 2 modems, although how well that would work, if at all, is a good question.
your best bet is to move the current router to somewhere between the two of you.

Using 2 modems is probably not a good solution if you two count as one client for your isp. most isps don't seem to like that. I even read that they even shutdown your connection for doing that.

If you want to wire everything then you can get a wired etherfast router.
