my sister gets the direct3d error and we have the reqs for the game.
OS: Windows XP
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
RAM: 512 MB
HDD: 80 GB
Vid Card: Verto GeForce FX 5500 PCI 128 MB
(Most recent drivers)
i've checked some sites, and ppl say that that card should work with Sims 2, but she still gets the direct3d error, and i've reinstalled DX9c, and still the same error, i can't figure it out.

Does she got direct x 9.0?
If you / she wanna check up the DirectX?
Go: "Start" + "Run"
In "Run" type, dxdiag
There you also have the possibility, to test DirectX and direct 3D.
You can download directx 9.0c at Microsoft home.

um, i said i reinstalled DX9c which means DirectX 9.0c lol
the tests show no problems.

Sorry! lol.
Download Driver Cleaner Pro 1.2. And then uninstall the driver. After uninstalling the driver. Use driver cleaner pro. But read the instructions carefully.
It may be, that she have old pieces of previous driver installations left.
It's never a good idea, to install a new videocard driver on top of another one.

awhile back when homeworld2 came out there was a rash of d3d errors... it seemed to be fixed by updateing your bios... at least for everyone playing hw2......

Driver Cleaner Pro didn't change anything dealing with Sims 2
As for updating my sister's BIOS, probably not cause I have to call a tech person in North Andover, MA and I live in GA, so I don't think my grandparents will let me do that, and I dunno what that person is gonna ask me anyways... (I have a question or two regarding your computer. Your technical information will be in front of me, so there's no need to be at your PC when you call.) I thought they would just send instructions but no...so I dunno what to do now, maybe if I can, I will return the card. Got it at best buy about 2 days ago.

Did you uninstall the old driver for the integrated videocard, after installing the FX card?
This is done in Windows device manager.

it was disabled, but i've uninstalled it now and used driver cleaner pro also, but still get D3D error

If it is just that game? Maybe the card can't make it? But I must admit, I'm a bit sceptic to that soloution.
Have you tried to find a patch for the game?
Posted by: Griffv8
yeah patch already installed
I'll reinstall the geforce drivers again
EDIT: I might just return the gfx card, I guess Sims 2 doesn't like it.
