eBay has unbanned the sale of drinks containing alcohol, giving a toast today at Comdex:
eBay is only the latest online company to try to cash in on the wine market, which is worth billions of dollars in sales. Despite the potential of the market, several high-profile start-ups such as Wine.com and Amazon.com-backed Wineshopper.com have gone out of business trying to navigate the myriad legal regulations.
It's a return to alcohol sales for eBay, which two years ago banned sales of beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages. At the time, the company attributed the ban to the complications of selling and shipping alcoholic beverages across state lines.
Even still, they will have to jump through many legal loops. Read more at CNet.

Once having worked in a winestore, I could tell you that it is indeed very hard to cope with the alcohol shipping regulations imposed by the US Government. The fact is, you can only "legally" ship to 1/3 of the 50 states (we couldn't even ship to New York, Florida or Texas, and those are some of the biggest liqur customers). There are times when we just had to risk shipping some wines to a "no state" and cross our fingers that we never get caught ... otherwise, we lose our liquor license...
