Need help now-Wireless router problem
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This is just a simple question that I need to have answered and has been troubling me for many hours for the past few days. If you don’t feel like reading at least skip to Part 3 to answer this. Let me explain:
Part 1:Setting it up
So I bought a wireless router, a Belkin F5D7230-4, so I could be ready for the Nintendo Wi-fi online plan. I know the router's a cheap one, like $40.
So I followed the instructions that came with it:
1.Take the yellow cord from the modem and put it in the slot in the router that says "modem", check.
2.Then take the blue cord and connect it from one of the four "wired" slots to the place where the yellow cord connecting the modem and computer once was, check.
3.Plug in the router, check.
So basically the set up looks like:
PC-------Router-------Modem------Phone line thingy
I did that exactly and I hit the next button on the easy install wizard program. It then checks my internet connection and after a few seconds says, sorry there was a problem could not find a connection.
The lights for internet, modem, ethernet, power, DSL, and wired components are all on, yet it's saying the connection or something is bad. Also I can't get on the internet when it's connected.
Part 2:Finding out what is wrong
I finally found what I might do to get this thing to work. It seems the router and the modem are kinda screwed up and I need to change the modem to bridge mode and set the router to PPPoE mode, so that the router is active and the modem is a stupid little box just connecting some stuff I need. I’m not sure if it’s right, but it might work. So I followed some steps I found at this site http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...ead.php?t=14393
1. click on start, run and enter CMD and hit the enter key
2. type in IPCONFIG /ALL and hit the enter key
3. write down the ip address of the DEFAULT GATEWAY (this is the ip address for the modem) (67.66.106.230 for my computer I believe)
4. close the cmd window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner
5. start internet explorer (or whatever browser you use)
6. type in the ip address that you wrote down above, usually in the format of 192.168.1.x and hit enter
7. there will be a setting somewhere on this web page that contains the entry PPPOE, change it to BRIDGED
8. be sure to save the changes, there's probably a SAVE CHANGES or similar button at the bottom of the page
9. power off your modem for at least 1 minute, just unplug the power cable
10. while the modem is off, unplug the ethernet cable from your PC and hook it up between the modem and the linksys router (or whatever brand you have), be sure the ethernet cable is connected between the modem and the router using the INTERNET ports (labeled as such) on the backs of the two boxes (there should only be one place to connect the cable on the back of the modem anyway)
11. now, hook up another ethernet cable between the computer and the router
12. turn the modem back on
13. start internet explorer
14. type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter, (if that doesn't bring up the routers config web page, then you don't have a linksys router and you should try, 192.168.1.254)
15. change the routers setting to PPPOE and enter in your login and password info, then be sure to save the changes
16. power off the router for about 1 min and then power it back on
17. start internet explorer and you should be online, forever and ever and ever...
Part 3:My attempt to fix this thing
Well I succeeded putting the modem into bridged mode and victory was in sight. But after I put it in bridged mode I can’t put the router too PPPoE mode because I can’t get on the internet. So I’m caught in this trap where I can’t even get on to change the modem back to normal to just get on the net. I tried internet explorer but no luck. But after a day I called SBC and they somehow reset my modem to normal, also screwing up all of my accounts on forums, along with other things. That’s great, all because of simply hooking up a wireless router.
So does anyone know how I can get this to work, possibly by bridging the modem, that is, IF I’m correct? Also I can’t get the router config. page up to set it in PPPoE if I’m on the net because then the modem is in, and the modem can’t be on when the router is on. So how can I change the router and modem when I’m caught in this, is there a way to change it differently without going online?
Any help is appreciated, you can also email me at Skies_of_Symphonia@sbcglobal.net .

iam a noob at wireless and internet but i think wireless routers are not exactly made for phone

...Yes the phone line (or DSL line) does go into the modem, that's one of the few things I know.

looks like you just didn't configurate your router at all. To acces your belkin router (it's connected to your pc and your modem as it should be) you open your web browser and type in 192.168.2.1 (factory standard for a belkin router) Then you get in the router config. There you have to set it up to use your modem with your internet account. It needs your username and pwd and the way to connect (can be PPoE or PPoA). Also your modem and your router have to be on at the same time for the system to work. The router uses your modem to connect to the internet and then spreads that signal through your network.
Well I couldn't make more out of your story. A bit confusing. But at least use the 192.169.2.1 to acces your router. Also Belkin routers are pretty good, and they have a lifetime guarrantee.

also now that I've read it again, when you change the settings in your router config, don't switch of the power and turn it back on again, your belkin has a reset button in the config screen. As for your router working with the modem, don't know about bridged or stuff like that. But in the config it has a status display of your connection. When it's configured correctly it will say it's connected in green letters.

Thanks, I think I got it now hopefully. Actually today I got on the router page and got ahead of myself and set it to point-access or whatever thinking that mode would work. I just have to reset it and go back to that page again.
