Budget Computer ideas?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

ok, my girlfriend(soon to be wife) and I are big online gamers. I know what your thinking..A woman that playes games...AHHHH...but anyway.. My computer is relatively up to date. AMD 64 3400---X800Pro 1 gig ram etc.. Her computer is kind of old, was built about 5 years ago and upgraded somewhat in the last 2 years. I am looking to suprise her for Christmas. I wanna build her a brand new setup...But I am kinda budgeted... She's got a relatively new GPU, MX4400 128mb. So I am looking to buy;

Mobo, Ram, PSU/Case, CD/DVD reader only, Single HD., CPU(retail preffered). Now were looking at about a 500-600 dollar budget MAX...the cheaper the better. I was thinking something like a Sempron, something budget but not dinosaur. Although i have been out of the Computer Parts hunt for a while, and don't what's cheap.

Now, I know what she does on the computer is very important, Our biggest thing is World of Warcraft, kinda hoping to try out some new MMO's for computers as they come out(Vangaurd,City of Villians). She's not big into FPS's. Other than that surfing the web, checking email the normal stuff. ANY help would be VASTLEY appreciated.

I would goto newegg, display socket 939 cpu's
grab the cheapest athlon 64
goto boards, grab the highest rated board that supports Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 X2 (for future upgrade to dual-core processor) and dual channel memory, and Sata II.
Grab two 512 of dual channel memory
Grab the cheapest 3.0 gb/s sata drive (there's a decent 80 w/ 16 mb cache might be nice investment)
get a dvd burner
floppy
good case w/ clear side panel for 60 after shipping just goto cases and select "color: black" "clear side panel window: yes"
If you want to use that agp card make sure the board has a slot, otherwise, grab a board with PCI-E and a budget ATI card.
don't forget win XP!

gotta love newegg

Me too.

Well for one Floppy drive is crucial for Raid. Although I want to get her a system thats a bit more simple. Hopeing to buy one for about 500-600 dollars prebuilt that I can upgrade in the future.

floppy drives do still come in handy and in spite of dell's best try, are still necessary at least on occasion.
