Diablo Hates My Connection

I have a linksys WAG54G ADSL Gateway. I have been having a problem and im guessing its something to do with configuration problems, but i dont know enough to sort it out.
What usually happens is when i get a bit of lag, i seem to get normal lag, but i can still recieve friends messages, but i cannot send them, nor can i recieve that are normal in-game chat. This usually ends with 'Connection Interrupted', i am then sent to the chat rooms. The second problem is that if i rejoin a game my connection is even more unstable and I end up getting another 'Connection Interrupted'. I can solve this with a reset of my router.
As you can imagine this is a pain in the ass!!
If anyone could tell me anything they think would be useful to me, or needs any more information from me just ask.
