Hey. I was wondering if you guys could help out with a problem I have. I tried hooking my computer up to my TV a couple days ago, and it stalled at the Windows XP loading screen. I supect it did this because it didn't get enoguh power, but I have no idea. I have hooked it up to the TV before, and it ran perfectly. Now, I have it hooked back up to my monitor, and it still stalls at the loading screen. I am in safe mode right now... I also tried System Restore, but that doesn't help either.

If you have the a videocard driver stored? Reinstall the driver.
Try CHKDSK also.
Othervice, try a repair installation of Windows XP.
Just uninstall the Videocard driver if it is'nt "WHQL" certified first.
If you dont know if it is WHQL?
Type dxdiag in "Run".
Here is a guide for the repair:

I told it to run SCANDSK on the next restart, and reinstalled some drivers for my videocard.
Now, I can't even get into safe mode.
Is there any other alternatives to fixing this that don't include deletig all my applications?

The repair install, wont touch your games and stuff.
The only things you need to reinstall, is SP2 and additional Windows updates. And eventually the videocard driver.

From that guide, it appears that I need a windows XP cd for that. I don't have one...
However, my computer (compaq) has a partition in the hard drive that I can use to recover it to the factory installed state. However, I do not know of it will delete the files on my hard drive...

Yepp, it will. So if you can? Start back up stuff on CD.s or DVD:s.
I would suggest, that you get a real Windows XP cd as soon as you can find the money. Newegg, have it for $86.95 XP Home included SP2.

Ew.
Why didn't Compaq ship me the XP CD along with my computer?
And how do I back stuff up when I can't get on my computer? :S

Yeah, that whas the question I asked myself, when I had a Compaq with a recovery cd.
Probably, the recoverys are cheaper for them.
Sorry, I forgot, you cant even enter safe mode.
Then, you will have to live with the fact, that you lost the stuff on that drive I'm sorry to say.
But after you fixed this. Make a habit of making backups on CD:s on a monthly basis.

Generally when you buy a computer these days the OS is already installed and they don't give you a CD, But on my computer, there was a program that made a recovery DVD with a bunch of info and Windows XP (I think). I'm surprised there was not something like that on your computer.

You dont know if it is possible to get that program, from somewhere? It could be really handy for those guys with the kind of recovery Twiz have.

I don't think that most companies give you just a plain OS CD. I seem to remember a Dell I had had windows on one of the CD's that was labeled, "Dell Software" or something. Just saying it might be there, just read the fine print on the CD's
If not, then suq =P

that backup program is part of the proprietary crap those comps have. theyve now gotten so lazy, they wont even ship recovery cds with the comp
