Hey all,
Let me explain my drive/system setup.
C: 250 GB SATA disk, with my games and windows
D: 200 GB 7200rpm ATA disk for storage (movies, mp3)
for reference: I have 1 GB dualchannel RAM 400mhz
Now, on what disk shall I place my pagefile and what size shall I give it?
C: is a faster disk, but contains the games so there will be a lot of diskhead movement or something like that?
D: is not so fast, but doesn't contain the games and OS
Related post: http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...8444#post278444 also about performance, maybe usefull to determine what would give me the best (BF2) performance)
thx in advance!

I have heard, that placing the pagefile on a small separate partiton is the best way. And I guess it will be on your SATA,
that will be the best soloution.
If you havent got Partition Magic? Download a trial of Acronis Disk director suite.

hmm, but it's still on the same physical disk, so the disk head is still moving from page file to game dir and such..

O.k. I must admit, that optimal pagefile placement , is'nt something I know that much about.
But I found this article. That may be helpful for you?
Thoughtful placement of your page file will pay off.
It is useful if you can locate your page file so that there is no contention between it and other files. Ideally one will place it on its own logical disk, or best of all on its own physical disk. If a page file is created in a shared partition ensure that you defragment the partition first - fragmentation of a pagefile causes poor system performance.
Optimal placement of the pagefile is easy if you are setting up a new system and are starting with a 'blank sheet of paper'. Few of us have that luxury however. When NT gets the capability to dynamically re-partition disks this will not matter as a separate partition for it will be able to be created on any system.
In the meantime, place it away from heavily used areas of disk. Think ahead as well. The size of the file needs to be large enough to cover its full life (currently without re-partitioning), remembering that the server could be subject to a number of upgrades.
Remember also that you can create multiple pagefiles on Windows NT.

ok, thx goranpaa, but still... what would give better performance during gaming? it's own partition on the C: or D: disk... its still a dillemma...

put the games on d, and the pagefile on c
there shouldnt be much hd accessing for the game itself other than for loading, so the head movement shouldnt be to exciting regardless of the location.

On my computer I have my games and such installed on D, only the OS and a few programs on C, and on a separate partition to C I have my pagefile. I noticed a slight increase in performance when I moved it to a separate partition. It's not a huge difference, but it's somewhat noticeable, depending on how much time you spend with your computer. :-P
