My wifes old Compaq Presario 7360 decidied it did not want to boot up anymore. It was acting up slowley over a period of time and then started to freez up. I also noticed the hard drive seemed to be running more than normal. It is now to the point it does not address the 1.44 drive and the light will not come on. I have done everything I can think of, the Escape, F-10 and Ctril and so on. I checked the drive and checkrd all the connections, cables and such. It now won't let me even get in through DOS. When I start it, the CD drive light flickers and then it goes to the COMPAQ screen and stops with the curser light just blinking several lines down the page. I have tried to get in to read the Windows CD and a diagnostics CD with no luck either. Oh yes I do run an anti-virus program. I would like to try and get in to recover the data and find out if it is hardware or software. Not to mention just being a Compaq. Anyone have any ideas out there? I am just about of them.

You said old, but how old? Sometimes after around 6 years (+/- 2 yrs.) computers just crap out. Unless you are really intent on keeping this computer, you would problably find it much less trouble to just get a new one. Have you backed up your data lately?

Well it could be that the PSU is dying? It could also be a CMOS battery whose voltage has dropped such that it can no longer enabled the CMOS. (thats the small battery on your mobo, english translation the battery could have died).
What you describe sounds like more than just the primary hd going bad.
