Dell C600 Laptop Video Problem

I've Got A Dell Latitude C600 That Has Recently Developed A Problem. It Works Fine Using A External Monitor But When I Unplug The Monitor Cable And Power Up The Unit It Starts Up With No Video Whatsoever On The Lcd Screen And Shuts Down After About 10 Seconds. When I Plug The External Monitor Cable Back In It Fires Up And Works Perfect. Any Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
