Compaq recovery

I was given a Compaq Presario model 5005SR desktop which had a failed hard drive. I installed a new Seagate 80 gig. My question is: since there is NO OS on this thing, will a Compaq "recovery disk" restore all OS and OEM parameters to this computer. I am fixing it up for a friend and want it to be a reliable machine. I HAVE 98 SE, but there are sound options etc that it won't support. The recovery disk that was given to me with the computer tries to install WIN 98??? The computer came with ME, and although I don't like ME, I feel it would best work WITH ME. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, R. Reis

Dowload the sofware you need from www.hp.com or you can buy a restore cd from them.

the pc probably had an upgrade of ME. if the restore cd has 98. or go to www.driverzone.com for all drivers, but HP should have those driver you need under customer support / drivers & downloads
