Problem, 64-bit processor/windows

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I do test on my pc on the internet, and I saw that I had AMD 3100+ 64-bit. So i tried to install windows 64-bit, but it said I didnt have the right processor.....

So why do a lot of sites, inculding compaq, the copmuters main website, say I have 64-bit, but I cant install it?

Is there a way to see in the computer to see if it says 64-bit? (maybe device manager)

Is this a Sempron AMD 3100+ ?
If it is, it does'nt have 64 bit support. If you want that? Then you will have to go Athlon 64.
But dont get too dishearted by that. It will take at least a couple of years, before the 64 bit Windows is where the 32 bit XP is to today. conserning reability.

P.s. that "64 bit" in the Sempron name is the 64bit memory controller, I just read. So it does not have anything to do with 64 bit Windows. Quite missleading actually.

You're welcome.

The positive thing with Sempron 3100+. Is that it is a really good overclocker.

Isn't Windows Vista a 64-bit compatable OS? There is a 64-bit XP OEM if you're really going to insane, but it lacks all sorts of drivers and junk the good ol 32 bit version has. My prediction is in 3 years things are going to be 64-bit. I say this because Vista will hopefully be out, then once Adobe makes 64 bit photoshop, everyone else will follow suit. Thats my prediction, place your bets.
