Secured IM?

How secured are messengers like Trillian and Yahoo from the network administrators? Can the messages transmitted using these messengers be read by admins? If there is a way to configure the applications so that the messages can be encrypted from everyone, please let me know.

They are not secure.

As for your second question, sysadmins can probably log and read those messages granted they have the proper software installed on your machine.

As for your third question, no, there isn't. Turning on encryption on your side won't do anything if the other side doesn't have the same encryption scheme enabled.

I found this software which encrypts IM messages. Obviously, it requires encryption on both ends.

Right, so it's essentially the same as the encryption you'd find built into Gaim or Trillian.
