Windows Alt Character Code Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

recently, my friends computer stopped displaying certain alt code characters. they all worked before, and most of them still work, but í (alt + 0237) and ñ (alt + 0241) aren't working right. 0237 functions the same as the home key whether in IE, word, etc, and 0241 sends IE to the homepage when used in IE (not sure what is does when used in word, wordperfect, whatever). charmap still says that the shortcut keys for these two are the correct alt + xxxx, but these two do not work. á, é, ó and all the rest still work fine, just these two. i vaguely remember there being a place where you could program these shortcuts, but i dont remember where it is. trusty ole reboot and crossed fingers didnt solve it unfortunately. next time im over there i'll run some anti-virus stuff in case thats it, but any help is appreciated. thanks.

edit: xp home

What ascii character you are able to make depends on the type of font you're using. If you changed fonts, it's very likely the key assignment is different, or it doesn't have the same characters.

its not fonts. all of this used to work but now does not.

The default fonts could have been changed, or he could have overwritten the default fonts with a corrupted font or unfinished font.
