Hi, I have a emachine t1842 I want to upgrade it, but I am not sure if I will be able to do much with it. I have been trying to find upgrading info on it. But it tough to find. It seems like I may have to buy a new motherboard. I want to have a p4 cpu something that will burn a movie in 10 minutes. As of right now it takes 2 hrs.. with a 1.8ghz chip.

You see my goal is to have a faster machine I am trying to do it without spending alot. I have been trying to find the least expensive place to buy parts as well. Do you guys know where in USA I can find good deals?

By the way this seems like a great site.

Thanks, Dave

If you want to burn a movie fast, get a faster burner, not a faster CPU. I highly doubt you'll have much luck trying to upgrade an e-machine.

Yeah, the dvd burner is what limits how fast you can burn a movie. The processor has little to do with it. You could try making your burn speed faster, perhaps to 16X. But if you really want to burn dvd's faster you will need a new dvd-rom.

If you wanna make a upgrade that's worth the money / effort. Get a PCI Express rig. Build it yourself, for about 700 - 800 USD. PCI Express will also make it upgradable for the future.
Otherwise, you can, just as gam3r says, get a new DVD burner.

What are you going to use this rig for mainly?
Gaming and some work / surfing
Or mostly work?
