Hi this message concerns the use of my computer playing computer games. I have a Gateway PC EV700 it is approx 8 years old, with a 19 inch monitor. It must be considered a Dinosaur by now. I have read previous posted questions regarding the Sims 2 and I do understand my Plug and Play monitor does not support this game. My plug and play is [R] 82810E graphics controller Microsoft Corporation. I also know my hard drive on this particular computer is odd. It is a USB computer and most everything about it confuses me, hence that does not take much...I would like to be able to play most any game without having problems could you please point me in the right direction on what I should buy in order to play this game with the best possible out come for playing other games. Where can I purchase a compatible graphics adapter and will I have sell my car in order to do so. Could you please help me out with this issue it would be greatly appreciated sorry if I'm rambling on being unable to play in The Sims 2 Holdiday Edition World has left me walking around the house in a dazed and confused state. Please email me if you need any other information that I did not provide at lovelife2491@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon and thank you so much for you time and effort in helping me with this dire situation.

Purchasing The Sims 2 Holiday Edition = $34.55

Spending the night in a Metal Ward having Game Withdrawal = $350.00 (Just Kidding)

Genuis answering ?'s to which a lame brain would be able to play The Sims 2 = PRICELESS

Hi!

You have the same problem, many that's coming here share with you.
That 82810E graphics controller wont work with the game.
The lowest version of the Intel graphics controller, supported by SIMS 2 is 82845.
So you must get another videocard to be able to play that and other modern games.
Your graphics controller, does'nt have support for Direct X 9.0 for just picking one problem.

If you consider upgrading your video card.
First make sure your motherboard, have a "AGP port".
Download Everest Home. And then check under Motherboard, and then Expansion slots.

If you find, that you have an "AGP" then this card will be a cheap and good upgrade for your PC:

SAPPHIRE Advantage 100561 GR Radeon 9600PRO 128MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM $70.00

If you find, that you dont have an AGP port on the motherboard. Then This PCI card is a good choise.

eVGA 128-P1-N320-LX Geforce FX5500 128MB 64-bit DDR PCI Low Profile Video Card - Retail $54.00

Prices, from newegg, webshop.

A bit of a warning here. Do not confuse "PCI Videocards" with "PCI Express", videocards! PCI Express wont fit your motherboard. And stay away from Geforce MX series cards, Or you will be near back at square one again.

A "PCI" videocard, will fit into any of the normal PCI card slots on your motherboard.

You may have to enter BIOS, after installing a new videocard, and disable the integrated Intel video chip.

This you do, by tapping the "delete button" at first boot scren. And then scroll with the "arrow keys" And look for a menue, called "Integrated perferials" or somthing like that.
Then disable the "Intel graphics controller". Save the setting in Bios. And When you are at your Windows desk. take out the CD, that came with the new card. And install the videocard driver.

After the installation is finished and you have rebooted. set the additional settings for resoloution (1024 X 768, is a good setting)
And the monitor update frequensy. Wich should be set to 75 Hz. This will lower the flickering and save your eyes.

Just remember, that you will have to redo this settings, in the videocard drivers propertys, every time you update the videocard driver.

Update for the Radeon is ATI home.
For the Geforce card, Nvidia home.
