I was up late reading some crazy indistingueshable l33t blabber on the quote of the day thing and got thinking.

Who started OTS? Did you guys know each other on bnet b4 OTS or visa versa? How do i set my computer to boot from a CD? Of all the sites i have visited, how has OTS managed to suck my very soul into the computer?

Now that i type when I'm rested, it seems less important,.....exept the boot CD thing... but i'd still like some answers to these Q's.

You can set your computer to boot from CD in the BIOS. Usually you can push Delete while booting to enter the BIOS (sometimes refered to as "Setup"). Othertimes you have to push F2. Once there, look for something about Boot Device Order or similar. And set the have the CD-ROM boot before your hard drive.

You might be interested in clicking on the link to "About Our Site" for more details about OTS's grand history.

As for the gritty details not included in there, well, Laggy (or more known to you guys as Canis Lupus) is the one who started this site... something that's pretty obvious too if you dig just a tiny bit around this site.

As for whether we knew each other before this site started... some of us did, mostly through the Open Tech Support channel on Battle.net. A lot of those people have moved on to other places, other things, and the demographic of this place has changed considerably since its conception. Now, chances are that most people you meet here only know each other through OTS.net (or they know each other personally because of offline referrals to this site).

The boot priorty in your BIOS should have CD-ROM as higher than Hard Drive as a default. It will always try to boot from the CD first as long as there is a bootable CD in the drive. BIOS changes should not be necessary.

So to answer the question: To boot from the CD, put a cd in the drive, and restart.

ya, I'm pretty convinced its just not going to work. I changed it, and instead of booting from the disk, it just booted windows, then freaked out and died.

Make sure you press the "any" key to boot into Windows setup if it's a Windows installation disk...

oh noes wheres the "any" key

its for Diabolic. It's a linux multimedia OS.

You could try disabling your hard drive in your boot order (not disabling the BIOS from recognizing it though), and then booting. That might work. If it doesn't want to boot from the CD, I'd try a different bootable CD just to see if it's the media or not. If it still won't then I'd try a BIOS update.

it definately isn't the CD, it has worked on 2 or 3 other computers. It isn't a big deal, don't even worry about it. but thanks for all the help.
