Just had a brilliant idea...

In light of all these cool children's book series coming out in theaters recently, somebody should make a movie for The Indian in the Cupboard.
Reason I'm saying this is because I'm eating toast, eggs, and bacon right now, and I always remember the part in Indian in the Cupboard where the main character feeds Little Foot (is that his name, or did I mix up with Land Before Time lol) and the cowboy dude corned beef, eggs, and toast. Don't ask me why, maybe it was because before then it never occurred to me to dip my toast into the eggs when eating breakfast at Denny's. When I was a kid, all I had were pancakes whenever we went to Denny's anyway.

Already was made:

In any case, those bacon, eggs, and toast were good. ^^
Oh right, and the Indian's name was Little Bear. I must find this movie and watch it before I'm hungry again.

Haha, I dunno. Happens to me a lot, comin' up with a brilliant idea, only to find that it's been done.

yeah i was just gonna say it was allrdy made(actually thats the only way i knew about it)

Well it occurred to me that a lot of kids these days probably don't even know about this series ... it was so good!
I wonder if parents still had their kids read Narnia even before the movie was announced.
You know what would be awesome? If they made the Chronicles of Prydain into a movie ... or better yet, the DragonLance chronicles... Unfortunately the latter is too much of a niche culture to ever hit the mainstream media...

Springy and I saw "Narnia" on Friday and it was absolutely amazing!! Hope they make all the other books into movies too.
We're looking forward to Ice Age 2 and Charlotte's Web (remake) also.

Tip: don't post brilliant money making ideas in the internet lest someone else take them.

I'm sorry but something you can find in spades at every major bookstore in the country does not qualify as a niche series.
I vaguely recall this movie using bad CGI.
Furthermore, carrots are so 1999.

Actually, it's a remake. I remember seeing this when I was a kid years ago. In school, I believe, after having read one of the books in class:

Oh I knew all about that... but that really doesn't count.

I alos saw the Chronicles of Narnia on Saturday and was blown away. I don't read very much (more visually oriented (movies, games, etc.)), but it really made me want to go and read the entire series.
Another book that I really got into was the Inheritence Trilogy of Eragon and Eldest. I heared that they are already in development of the Eragon movie. If any of you have read the books, which I highly suggest, I'm very interested in seeing this when it comes out. I love that the fantasy world is making such an impact on our society through the media.

I love The Indian in the Cupboard, It's a great movie!
I also saw Narnia over the weekend and I loved it. Great special effects!

Saw Narnia, thought it was amazing. and convinced about 20 of my friends to see it (with a threat consisting of "doom unto their houses" here and there) I dunno, I guess Eragon and the dragonlance series would be AMAZING movies, but I'm afraid they'll destroy it, like so many other books made into movies.

*cough* War of the Worlds *cough*

They should make a movie series of the Angus Wells Godwars book trilogy. I loved those books but I think myself and 6 other people in the world read them...hugely overlooked AWESOME fantasy series. Oh and the Robert Jordan Wheel of time series would make a decent movie or....cough...12

Completely agree. War of the Worlds was possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I was so disapointed with it.

I usually lurk and don't post, but had to agree on the assessment of War of the Worlds. Way to take a great book (although a bit long-winded) and turn it into a torturous theater experience. My teenage daughter loved it "Oh my gosh, he's soooooooo hot!!" (Speaking of Justin Chatwin who plays Robbie, not [eeewwwwww, gross] Tom Cruise) Her idea of a great movie is the relative "hotness" of the actors. I personally like a story well-told, but to each his/her own!
LOVED Narnia!! Great adaptation of a book. Another great adaptation is Michael Shaara's Killer angels made into Gettysburg. If you've seen that movie, you've pretty much read the book.
I preferred the Indian in the Cupboard books to the movie, but a re-make would be fun...

There were a lot of things wrong with war of the worlds, but it was a very good adaptation of the original novel into movie form, once you sweep aside the fact that it's been "updated" to events transpiring during today's time.
Please note that you cannot argue against this statement as it is fact beyond any shadow of a possible doubt, and any such accusations will be ridiculed with delight and glee.

like dakota fanning

lol See what I mean?? No one likes godwars...anyways Dakota Fanning RULES!!! YEA...I'M HER BIGGEST FAN...cough cough
Posted by: singinginmycar
I got tired of Dakota Fanning screaming, but that may just be a mom's p.o.v... *shudders
So, Bishop, when did the main character in the original book become a deadbeat Dad? I remember him as being a single young man, but then I did read it a long time ago.
Posted by: Bishop
See the part about updating it to be acceptable in today's society.
Posted by: sislaen
OMG I didn't think anyone else was driven off the edge by that girls incesant screaming in WoW...I know I went a little crazy...mmm cats....
Posted by: singinginmycar
See, if they had left it as a single man, like in the book, no one would have been driven insane by the screaming of little Miss Fanning! Not a good adaptation, even for the purpose of being "acceptable in today's society". Young single men are still acceptable, as far as I know...
End of argument.

It wasn't just about a young man, it was about a well established and moderately wealthy man who suddenly finds a world torn apart.
The particulars of the original story would never be communicable to society today, the class system is incredibly different. It's difficult for the majority of people to relate to the idea of an established individual suddenly losing control.
It's much more realistic for today's society to see a working/family man scenario.
All of this is hogwash, however, as you're ignoring the basic point and focusing too much on the details.
The story, in and of itself, was transmuted to the screen in the best adaptation so far, aside of course from the fact that everything revolves around a different century.

I think you can communicate the idea of an established individual suddenly losing control very well to today's society. I reference 9/11 and the recent hurricane season. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the gulf states and witness first hand what happens when an established world is suddenly ripped apart. That was far more intense to me than Tom Cruise acting like he was losing it. Maybe I'm biased because I'm not enamoured by Tom Cruise, never have been. Or, maybe I just prefer reality and the indomitable spirit of real people living real lives amid horrendous chaos.
I don't think our class system is so different today. It is as difficult today to go from the poverty class to middle class or from middle to upper class as it was then. Money isn't the reason. There are enough societal mores in each class as to confuse anyone making the leap up, or down for that matter.
Aside from that, in the broad sense they did keep the story mostly intact, but I could still do without the screaming. yeesh, seemed like 50% of the movie!

I wanted to strangle the little girl. That's right. I was damn near homicidal at the end of it.

Alien death rays and mass panic tend to induce screaming in most individuals.

I have yet to see this alleged ridicule. Have I so successfully argued my point that you are unable to answer?

What have I done?! Haha. I seem to have instigated something here... haha.

Nah, this thread is now dead b/c Bishop won't reply. He's done with this topic, I think.
