Dell Laptop keeps freezing

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude CPX laptop to use for my schooling. It worked for the first few weeks, but now it has started freezing on me.

Sometimes it will let me load Windows (2000) and other times I can even get it to start.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with it?

Have you tried contacting Dell? I know it might be a bit of a pain (Dell's customer service has gone down the toilet in recent years), but if you just recently purchased it, it should still be under warranty.

I'm not positive on what the problem could be, but it's always best to contact Dell, especially if it's still under warranty.

It could be heat issues. Have you allowed it to cool down before starting it back up?

Perhaps Dell installed a bad harddrive. Every computer I have purchased from Dell has had something wrong with it. I have had to get hardware replaced because they screwed up. Your probably going to have to contact their tech support (that should be fun ). You will probably be speaking to someone in India that can barely speak English, but it's the only way your going to get answers, unless you are willing to pay a computer shop to fix it.

Last computer I bought from Dell had a lot more than 1 thing wrong with it.

a CPx is an older laptop - two generations older than the most recent permutations of the dell laptop. If you go to the Dell website and put the Service Tag number in the search box: http://support.dell.com/support/ind...s=19&l=en&s=dhs

There maybe some Firmware updates, driver updates etc. that will help with the issue.

There could be some version of the device drivers and firmware that are incompatible with the recent UPdates for Windows... Download the latest EVERYTHING for the laptop - and see if that helps..
