I bought fear today and it has been freezing constantly at the menu's and during the game, it seems to be a certain amount of time before it freezes. I can't cntl alt delete out of it i have to restart my computer.

I tried reinstalling, then i tried reinstalling and using the second latest patch but it still freezes...

I have an Abit mobo, a 3500+ 64, 6800GT AGP and all my drivers are up to date.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Check the temps on your video card. Is it overclocked?

I'm not sure, but I think there might be some known issues with F.E.A.R. and Win64.

F.E.A.R. is a very tuff game for most video cards. I dont think you can run the game on the highest settings and high resoloution, even if your card is a 6800GT.

Reading this may help.

If you wanna log your temperatures and check them after a gaming session? Download NVtemplogger, and set it to log the temps.

I'm pretty sure it's not over heating because i reinstalled it and DID NOT patch it and it ran fine

Then, when i patched it again it froze.

So i'm almost positive it's a problem with the patch.

Yeah, that could very well be. Some patches makes things worse instead of the opposite. Uninstall the patch.

i've read the win 64 xp is a very touchy setup i am running the 32bit xp pro and have had no serious problems just some minor pauses as i transition from room to room probably have to down tweak some of the performance options of the game

My son has the same problem with all games including FEAR, screen locks after about 5 minutes, older games worked ok for almost 1 year before problem started.
Windows XP Home, AMD 3200, 256mb Video, 1mb RAM, have wiped drive and reinstalled everything, still have same problem, screen lock up about 5 mins. into game.

I am thinking it is a problem with one of the famous Windows updates ?

We are going to try different drive then different computer, I have a older Pent IV 3.06 gamming computer with 1mb RAM, I might need to upgrade video card.

i believe you need a 6 series or better video card to run most games now , i personally dont run win 64 due to the bad things ,i heard fear runs fine on the xp pro 32 bit programs on my computer yes i know i run a upper end 7800 but i have seen here and at tweaksrus.com stories about you need 6600 or better to run fear.
also try using a drive cleaner before installing other drivers download them first then follow drive cleaners instructions carefully. i got some better performance using the drive cleaner.
