Command and Conquer: Generals, startup problem.

Err, Iv'e been having problems with EA's tech support, and I found this website in search for a message board, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I bought the game recently from Wal-Mart, it's not the expansion pack, it's the actual game.

I'd like to know if anyone has ever encountered anything similar, and maybe might know how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: My pc stats:

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 1666MHz
Memory: 224 Mb (228,848 Kb) A0: 256 Mb(SDRAM, 60 ns)
Video Card: S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (32.0 Mb): 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit)
Audio: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
OS: Windows XP Home Edition U.S. English 5.1

Here's the message (not replied to) I sent to EA:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whenever I start up the game, It crashes, and gives me the message: "Sorry, a serious error has occurred"

Iv'e tried reinstalling the game, and even patching it, but it still won't work.

According to the technical support program, my computer meets the requirements for this game. I have no idea what else to do.

Please tell me if there's any way to fix this problem.

I don't know what it means, but i found a text file in

"...\My Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\" containing this information:

; Reason Uncaught Exception in GameEngine::update

Update the game with a patch then update all your drivers then if that dose not work and you have overclock a part of the computer set it back to normal
