I am not a pro, I just want a program that is good for photo editing and such. Does anyone have or know of a good middle of the line program?
Thanks

YES i do = Paint
or Photo Shop

yea, i agree, photo shop is a great program. But, most Dell computers come with awesome software already loaded. What type of computer you have?

The Gimp for windows is probably the most powerful graphics editing software for free. It kind of has a learning curve, but if you spend time with it and learn it, you can do a lot of stuff.

Well, i guess it depends on how hard-core you want the software to be. If you just want to, maybe, fix red-eye on pictures, create albums, printing them, and other simple features such as cropping the image, Photo Shop is the program to use

I have a hodge podge machine p4 266 1gb ram nvidia GeForce fx5200. It was originally a VPR Matrix, but it has been modified a bit since we bought it. Processor's still good, though older. It does what I need it to do- I'm not a big gamer. Any software pre-installed is long gone by now. There's nothing like formatting your hdd!

hehe, lol. Ok, so ya might want to get Photo Shop software, and then maybe a nice photo printer if needed, and your set for all your digital camera printing/editing needs.

Not too hard-core, but not as simple as paint, either. I haven't used graphics editing software for 5 years, so I'm out of the loop altogether. I really never used the software hard-core, just helped middle-schoolers in a lab operate it at a basic level. I don't remember the name of the program, even. Taking out red-eye, using effects, cropping, cutting and pasting are all functions I would like.
My daughter would like something for editing that is less time intensive than paint. She makes dolls from templates that she gets online and spends time editing by pixel in paint.

Are you willing to spend money on the software?
Posted by: singinginmycar
yes, but not $600

well, i'd just suggest driving out to a local best buy, or tech store and checkin out the software there

Paint Shop Pro. Pretty simple, and I bought it a long time ago for about $30. That was at a huge computer expo though. I'm not sure how much it goes for now, probably a lot more.
Otherwise go with The Gimp, you can't beat free software. Photo Shop can be a little involving too, and extremely expensive. Heck, for the money that Adobe wants for PS, you can build a decent workstation.

I agree, Paintshop pro 9.0 is very good, and probably cheap now as version 10 have been out for a while.
Also ACDSEE is a very good compliment. Try both first and see if you like them?

I like Paint Shop Pro version 7 for most of the simple stuff I do. I don't need or have the inclination to learn the new stuff in later versions.

If you want to just do everyday enhancements to photos and have the option to cut and paste, you could try Photoshop Elements. It offers many of the artistic and corrective filters that Photoshop CS has, but it is not nearly as complex. Otherwise, I would go with The Gimp.

Yeah, I just got Photoshop Elements 4.0 it's great.
You can download a trial at Adobe if you wanna try it out?
And included in the software, is Adobe Gamma, wich will help you set the correct monitor adjustments for colour and brightness / contrast etc.

If all you want to do is very basic photo editing with not a lot of fancy stuff that is found in PhotoShop, you also might want to try www.arcsoft.com and getting either Photo Studio or Photo Impression. They aren't very expensive and for many things they work very well. My friend from college's mom really appreciates the red eye removal tool in Photo Impression, and I use it myself mostly for the slide show functions. I may upgrade to PhotoShop if I ever need more functions, but I doubt it.

Adobe Photo Shop would probably be your best bet.

pffft, i wouldnt recommend anyone pay for editing software if they dont need it professionally. gimp is very powerful, and there are other less powerful free/sharewares around.
