TW 06... crashes video card...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an emachines W 3050 computer running an NVidia GEForce 4 MX video card. Upon completing an offline game session, the screen freezes and a pop-up indicates my video card is no longer responding. I did an error report, which according to Microsoft , is a hardware accelleration problem. Lowering hardware accelleration at all is not an option as this renders the game useless. The specific error is... thread loop stuck in device driver. I tried to download the latest update for this card but when launching the game a direct x pop-up appears stating that there is not enough memory for this application. My question is, is there a driver update available specifically for this card or have todays' game graphics made it obsolete after only one year?? TW 04 & 05 run fine. I thank all who may respond in advance.

Hi! If you are running a 32 or 64mb MX card it will be really tuff for you.
That game ( I own it myself) Have very advanced graphics, And your videocard, need full directx 9.0 support. + shader 2.0 support at least. The MX card lacks both.

The only thing you can try.
Is to lower your monitors resoloution, set all quality settings to "Program controlled"
And then head into the games video options and set the settings manually to medium and low. And move the slider towards "Performance".

But the best way would be to get a videocard like this:

SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800SE 128 Radeon 9800SE 128MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM $69.00

Or if you can afford it?

SAPPHIRE 100556L Radeon 9800PRO 128MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail $127.00

Prices, newegg, webshop.

Thanks for the quick response goranpaa. I was afraid of that . My only question would be... will this Sempron 3000+ (1.99G) processor support the cards you listed? And is this an open the case & swap cards situation? Thanks again in advance.

It's no problem with the Sempron. You can run faster videocards than that. But the latest Geforce cards and Radeons, require a powersupply at least 430W and of very good quality, And then we are talking about 200 to 250 bucks. videocard + PSU.

But the cards I listed, is good cards, that will run Tiger Woods 2006 and other modern games. Especially 9800Pro. Wich whas the Radeon top card, before the new X series.

Jepp, you have to go into the case. But mounting a new videocard, is not especially difficult.
Just remember, to unplug the PC, a couple of minutes before you open it.

Also rid yourself of static electrisity, by grabbing a kitchen sink or water tap. Dont touch ANY hardware, before you done that! Can seriously harm the videocard and other stuff.
The rest is pretty obvious.

You're welcome.

Also make any quality settings from inside the game, instead of in the drivers propertys.
There you will have to experiment somewhat with the new cards settings.

And dont forget, that you will have to uninstall the Geforce cards driver in "Add / remove programs", after installing the new card.

You will also have to set resoloution and the refresh rate for the monitor. 75Hz is a good setting, that will lower the monitor flickering and spare your eyes.

I think you will be amazed by Tiger W. 2006 graphics. When you see the game with the new card.
