Outlook Express 6--Text Editing Problem

Sometimes when I am writing email messages and I want to edit by changing words or inserting text, the newly typed words "eat up" and replace already written text. This doesnt happen all the time, but when it does I can find no control that will allow me to insert the text without losing already existing text. When this happens, if I copy the email to my drafts folder, I can insert without losing text. This happens about a third of the time. What can I do when it does occur. Thanks in advance.

I am using XP personal addition with Service Pack 2 installed.
