What are support points?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just noticed them there and I was curious what they were.

If you offer help to other users, moderators and administrators can give you points for your contribution. It's sort of a rating system.

*Gives self 1 point* hehe j/k

Funny you asked ... I haven't announced it yet because they're still on a trial basis.

Basically, support points are given out by moderators to people who they think are doing a good job in the forums. These are the rough criteria:

1.) Helping fellow members with tech support questions - and actually fixing their problem in the process
2.) Suggesting solutions or great links
3.) Bringing up an excellent argument in discussions
4.) Correcting some false information in reviews, guides or support topics (in a nice way, of course)
5.) Just being a nice person to everyone

A moderator gives out support points as a "reward" for a member's performance in a given thread or situation. Of course, this does not mean anyone can "kiss up" to a mod and ask for points, hehehe ... support points are not designed to be given often - only on special situations that a mod sees fit...

Moderators and OTS staffers are not entitled to support points, hence the word "staff" on theirs

I'll put up a FAQ once I see that it's a good system to keep...

aw, and here I am thinking Im special

seriously though- pretty cool idea. any rewards given out for having alot of points??

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Maybe It really depends on how successful this rating system is ... and how much moola we have in the OTS piggy bank

which right now is just enough to pay for webhosting fees, hehe

Laggy this is a great site, i love you man............

Holy shit! Does this mean that you can have a minus for not knowing anything hehe

Posted by: Chako

Ellen....

You and I might end up owing OTS money with that negative rating.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Hehe, fortunately, there is no way to subtract points ... we couldn't even if we wanted to, hehehe

Oops, I had already asked this in a different post. Didn't know someone had asked already.

Thanks.

Can we parlay these support points into OTS gear? I want to know how many points it takes to get a free teddy bear...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

That's actually one of the plans .. which is why I'm trying it out first

Posted by: redwench

Posted by: Canis Lupus

I am expensive to feed and I pee in the yard at night when the bathroom is full. The cost is too high as it is.

I've had this account since mid-summer and I don't even have 30

*I'm a tad shy about expressing my oppinion*

Posted by: Canis Lupus

It's not how often you say it, it's what you say that counts

Posted by: Swilo

Stop being supportive.

Posted by: The-AoD

Well isn't that just confusing as ever? Ohh well, I seem to get the "gist" of things now. I don't really "care" much for rating systems, I'd rather just help people who need help. But I'll do my best in any circumstance.

Posted by: PhantomGamer

so you can just get pionts for being nice cool
look at me lol
