Post Beeps, Video card?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello. I had a problem with my computer not posting. I've determined that the 1 long, 2 short beeps possibly meant that the video card was bad. I had another computer that was working fine, so I took the video card out of it to try in the first computer, but it did not solve the problem. So I put the VC back into the 2nd computer, and now it's not working either. (no beeps, just turns on and does nothing on the screen)

The first computer still beeps the 1 long, 2 short beeps. The second does nothing. Neither display anything on the screen. I've also tried the 2 monitors while the 2nd computer was working fine - both work. (The first computer has also beeped a series of 7 beeps intermittantly. I got my beep info from the following site: http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/compaqbeep.htm

Did the first computer actually ruin the video card from the second computer?

What do I check now?

It sounds possible that the faulty graphics card has blown the second PC's mobo.
I presume you have put the known good graphics card back into the second PC?
Are you sure that the cards are seating correctly?
Also, you could try changing the CMOS battery.

I've removed and reseated the card a few times. Seems like that's not the problem. Is the CMOS battery the flat round battery on the motherboard?

I took the goog graphics card out of #2 and put it in #1. When it did not work, I returned it to #2.

So now if the battery is the problem with #1, then what happened to #2?

Yes, the CMos battery is that round one.

Change the battery. They only cost a couple of quid in the UK. Don't know where you are though, but it should still be cheap.
